Picture this

Okay kids...I'm about to take the next step toward getting this loopy photo project of mine off the ground: buying the camera. I'm leaning toward the Canon PowerShot A620, but any input and/or advice you may have would be most helpful. Recommendations, for or against? Where to buy? Anybody? (Keep in mind that I'm a) completely retarded, technologically and otherwise, and b) on a budget.)

And just how will I repay you for your time, kindness, and wisdom, you ask?

By posting the pictures of my giant boobies taken with my new camera, of course. Duh.

I have been really happy with the Sony DSC-P200 that I bought last spring, as my Dudesnude.com profile will attest. It's less than $300 now.

The things I decided were most important to me in a camera, aside from testimonials as to the picture quality, were small size, because otherwise I would never carry it, and a rechargeable battery. The Sony has all those qualities, and then some.

The common complaint people have about Sony cameras is that they use Memory Stick, versus the cheaper Compact Flash or SD/MMC storage cards. But they're not that much more expensive, really, and how many of them will you need anyway? A 1GB Memory Stick goes for less than a $100.

I was going to say it looks like the Canon supports more accessories, like interchangeable lenses, but the Sony has those too. Do I need a wide-angle lens, for my butt pics? Hmm...

Have you played with any cameras in a store yet? There's no substitute for reading the fucking manual, but there's nothing like handling the merchandise either.

Yay, Boobies!

Actually, I just did a long spell of research before buying my new toy... I mean, "our" new camera... and the A620 was on my list. It's a great beginner-to-midrange camera at a fair price. Canon is a great brand, and dcresource has the most comprehensive reviews around, IMHO.

As for price, I ended up getting my Canon S2 IS at B&H, because even though online places were cheaper, after shipping it worked out to be roughly the same, plus the wait time. If you do order online from some cheap place, make sure to check cosumer reviews of the store, and make sure the camera you're buying is new, rather than a refurb (unless that's what you want).

BTW, I haven't yet taken any photos of my boobies, but I could send you a photo of Mrs. Nator's butt...

Oh, if you use a PC, you might want to look into Google's free Picasa software, for managing and editing your boobie photos. Most cameras come with some photo software of their own, and Photoshop Elements seems like a good deal too, for the feature set.

If you use a Mac, iPhoto can almost everything you would want.

Pictures of boobies kinda make my memory stick have a powershot. I'm not real good with cameras though or I'd show everyone a pic of mine.

If you're having second thought about your Powershot, you can borrow my Sony. Or, I will hire a portrait artist.

Whatever it takes for giant boobie photos.

your ideal digital camera will vary depending on your needs. if i were to get the canon a620, i would get it because it was small, lightweight, and had full manual control, and a very large megapixel count, for its price range. i would not get it for everyday use, however, because it does not have a large enough zoom.

for serious camera work, i would get the powershot s2, which would be comparably priced (given the s3 came out earlier this year). the powershot s2 is a stunning camera, totally ramps your photography up to a much higher level. again, comparably priced to the a620 (if you price around, i got mine on amazon for only $320). its downside: bigger, and can't fit in the pocket, and not as easy to just carry around.

for an everyday camera, i recently got the a530, choosing a slightly lower mp count, for the higher (6x) zoom, which i don't regret. my only complaints are 1) poor performance in low-light situations and 2) a bit noisy when zooming. it, however, does fabulous macro work.

despite problems i've had with canons, i will still only buy canons because they have good optics, but more importantly, they're the only camera in the consumer price range that allow full manual control.

dcrpreview.com is an excellent resource.

Thanks for all the advice, monkeys. My lean has now shifted toward the S2 1S, although it's gonna push me a bit overbudget what with all the gadgety stuff that goes along with it. But then, when has something like a budget ever stopped, or even slowed me down? Psssh...

Excellent. Some of the great things about the s2 is that it has:

1. Super macro mode - for when you want to get really close to your boobies.
2. Excellent zoom - for long-distance booby shots.
&
3. Image stabilization - so you don't have to wear a bra when photographing your boobies.

Enjoy!
